The Karnataka High Court has extended the stay on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry against Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar in the disproportionate assets case. The extension was granted pending the resolution of a query that a single-judge has placed before the Chief Justice. Shivakumar had challenged the FIR against him in the case, seeking the quashing of the sanction granted to the CBI to prosecute him. The High Court has dismissed the petition challenging the grant of sanction earlier. The case dates back to 2017 when the Income Tax Department conducted a search and seizure operation at Shivakumar’s residence and offices. The Enforcement Directorate began a probe following the operation, and the CBI subsequently requested the state government to grant it sanction to register an FIR against Shivakumar.
