The victims were identified as Karthick (23) and Jaswanth (19), both students at a private college in Potheri, as well as Parthasarathy (52) and Bhavani (32), residents of Potheri. The collision took place in the morning when a speeding lorry carrying sand lost control, veered onto the median, and struck pedestrians crossing the road. The impact resulted in the immediate death of four individuals, while three others sustained severe injuries.

Upon receiving the report, the Guduvanchery traffic investigation police arrived at the scene, retrieved the bodies, and transferred them to the Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, the lorry driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by the public, who handed him over to the authorities.

An investigation has been launched, and a case has been registered against the driver. The accident caused a disruption in traffic on the busy highway for over an hour. The tragic incident prompted Minister TM Anbarasan and District Collector Rahul Nadh to visit Chromepet GH in the evening to pay their respects to the deceased.

Minister Anbarasan expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and highlighted that the lorry driver had lost control due to dizziness. He announced that the families of the deceased would receive compensation of Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s relief fund, while those injured in the accident would be provided with Rs 50,000.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for stringent measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
