Ravenswood Man Arrested for Solicitation of Minor via Computer

A Ravenswood man has been apprehended following an investigation into child sex crimes, with law enforcement officials stating the suspect was actively involved in soliciting a minor using a computer. Michael Casto, a 30-year-old resident of Ravenswood, was taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Investigations on Thursday night. Casto is scheduled to face arraignment on Friday.

Authorities described the investigation as lengthy and graphic, indicating its complexity and the disturbing nature of the alleged crimes. Although the specifics of Casto’s actions were not disclosed, the charges stem from the supposed use or attempted use of a computer to engage in the solicitation, enticement, seduction, or luring of an individual under the age of 18 who is believed to be at least four years younger than the person employing the computer.

According to the West Virginia Code, if convicted of the solicitation charge, Casto could face a fine of $5,000 and up to 10 years of imprisonment. Furthermore, if the offender had made arrangements to meet the minor in question, the penalty may increase to a $25,000 fine and a maximum of 30 years behind bars.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the crucial importance of ensuring the safety of minors online. Law enforcement agencies continue to prioritize their efforts in combatting online sexual exploitation, working diligently to protect vulnerable individuals from potential harm. The severity of the charges faced by Casto underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated, further emphasizing the need for increased vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard children from online predators.

As the case moves forward, the judicial process will aim to determine the extent of Casto’s alleged actions and, if found guilty, impose appropriate legal consequences. The arrest serves as a clear indicator that law enforcement agencies remain committed to protecting the well-being of minors in our community by actively investigating and confronting those who seek to exploit them.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is expected to release further information as the case progresses, ensuring transparency in their efforts to combat child exploitation.
