An AIIMS study conducted in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, reveals that 56% of adolescents display a moderate level of problematic internet use. Additionally, the study indicates that 65.52% of males and 34.48% of females aged between 14 and 19 years have shown addiction to the internet. The research focused on assessing psychosomatic problems related to problematic internet use, revealing that depression, anxiety, stress, and somatic complaints are directly related to this usage. It also revealed that long-term internet use is significantly associated with increasing health problems. The study raises concern over the amount of time adolescents spend using the internet and the extent of activities they undertake while online. Schools and parents are encouraged to explain to children and adolescents the appropriate use of the internet, including restricting screen time. Additionally, it is crucial to reduce addiction levels and minimize the disastrous impacts on the physical and mental well-being of adolescents by implementing school-based educational programs.
