BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Charged in Sexual Harassment Case: Delhi Police
Delhi police informed a metropolitan court on Friday that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the trial of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP, in a case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
According to the police, a prime facie case has been made out against Singh and his co-accused, suspended WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar. The public prosecutor representing the police, Atul Srivastava, stated in court that the accused individuals should be charged for the offences mentioned in the charge sheet. This includes charges under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment), and 354-D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Singh.
The court will reconvene on August 19 to hear arguments from the complainants’ advocate regarding the charges. Singh and Tomar were granted bail on July 20, with certain conditions, including a bond of Rs 25,000 each and restrictions on leaving the country without prior permission from the court or influencing witnesses.
The Delhi police had filed a charge sheet against Singh, a six-time MP, on June 15th.
