A Waterloo woman has been found guilty of running over her soon-to-be ex-husband’s girlfriend in 2020. Marilyn Lynn Meron was convicted of serious injury by vehicle, a felony, and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.

The incident occurred on September 5, 2020, when Meron hit Katline Woods in an alley behind the 1100 block of Logan Avenue. Prosecutors argued that Meron deliberately ran over Woods and then left her to die. Woods sustained severe injuries and remained in the hospital for several days.

Assistant County Attorney Alisha Stach, who prosecuted the case, described Woods as lucky to be alive, with tire marks on her torso. The trial revealed that Meron and her husband, Jacob Meron, were in the process of divorcing at the time of the incident. Woods had sent Marilyn Meron a Facebook message about arranging the return of her belongings.

According to Meron’s attorney, John Bishop, his client called her husband in response to the message, and Woods joined the conversation, threatening to discard Marilyn’s belongings. Marilyn Meron then went to her mother-in-law’s home on Logan Avenue, where she encountered Woods in the backyard and slapped her.

As the situation escalated, Bishop claimed that Marilyn Meron realized her mistake and decided to leave the scene. However, Woods followed her out to the car, asking about her belongings. Jacob Meron also got involved, and according to Bishop, Marilyn Meron was in a state of panic. Woods claimed that her hand got trapped in the driver’s side door handle as Marilyn Meron backed up, causing her to lose her balance and be run over.

After the incident, Marilyn Meron returned home and called a friend, who took her to the police department. During her police interview, jurors saw portions of the video in which Marilyn expressed distress over the accident, stating that she had been trying to leave and had panicked.

The jury deliberated before finding Marilyn Meron guilty of serious injury by vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident. Sentencing will take place at a later date.

It is important to note that Marilyn Meron’s conviction represents a significant development in the case, highlighting the legal consequences of her actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and responsibly, while avoiding harm to others.
