Seattle Seahawks Wide Receiver Cade Johnson Hospitalized with Concussion in Preseason Game

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cade Johnson was hospitalized with a concussion during a preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night. Johnson was taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation of head and neck injuries after being placed on a backboard as a precaution.

The incident occurred in the second quarter following a kickoff, although there were no visible signs of injury. Johnson had a 17-yard return on the kickoff and also had one rushing attempt for 2 yards. He was targeted twice but did not make any catches in the game.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll confirmed after the game that Johnson had indeed suffered a concussion, but initial tests did not reveal any other injuries. Johnson, who had full movement in his extremities, will undergo further evaluation to determine the extent of his injury.

The Seahawks’ training staff and medical personnel attended to Johnson in the medical tent behind the bench for several minutes before transferring him to a stretcher and transporting him across the field and up a tunnel to where ambulances are stationed during games at Lumen Field.

Carroll emphasized that the medical team took every precaution necessary, utilizing the backboard and stretcher for Johnson’s safety. It remains unclear at this time whether Johnson will spend the night in the hospital.

Cade Johnson, a third-season player out of South Dakota State, had two receptions over three games last season for the Seahawks. The wide receiver’s current condition and recovery timeline are yet to be determined.

The Seahawks will closely monitor Johnson’s progress as he receives medical care. As with all head injuries, it is crucial for players to follow the proper protocols and take the necessary time to fully recover before returning to the field.

The team’s focus now shifts to ensuring Johnson’s well-being and providing him with the support he needs during his recovery process. The Seahawks will also assess their wide receiver depth chart in light of Johnson’s absence and determine how to best adjust their lineup moving forward.

Overall, player safety remains a top priority in the NFL, and incidents like these serve as a reminder of the physical demands and risks associated with the sport. The Seahawks organization and fans alike are wishing Cade Johnson a speedy recovery and hoping for his swift return to the field once he has fully healed.
