UFC welterweight contender Vicente Luque is set to make his return to the Octagon this weekend after overcoming a brain hemorrhage. Following a knockout loss to Geoff Neal in August 2022, Luque experienced a serious health scare but has since been medically cleared by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Speaking at the UFC on ESPN 51 media day, Luque expressed his gratitude for being able to fight again. He credited his swift recovery to the support of the UFC and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz. Luque stated that he feels better than ever and believes he has become a stronger fighter as a result of the experience.

The loss to Neal marked the first time Luque had been knocked out in his career. Reflecting on the fight, Luque admitted that he couldn’t differentiate between merely taking a hard beating and having a serious injury since he had never been knocked out before. Despite this, he acknowledged that the sensation felt different and emphasized the importance of caution moving forward.

Following the brain hemorrhage diagnosis, Luque took a month off from physical activity before gradually easing back into training. He incorporated running, working out, grappling, and pad work into his routine. However, he waited six months before resuming sparring, which he now approaches with a more technical and careful mindset.

Luque’s scare has prompted him to prioritize safety and avoid unnecessary brawls during sparring sessions. He emphasized the importance of respecting boundaries and not inflicting unnecessary harm on his training partners. Luque feels fortunate to be training with the team at Kill Cliff, where there is a focus on intense cardio and skill development without the need for excessive physical contact.

Vicente Luque’s return to the Octagon is eagerly anticipated, with fans excited to see him back in action. His recovery from the brain hemorrhage serves as a testament to his resilience and determination as a professional athlete. As he prepares to face former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, Luque remains focused on giving his best performance while prioritizing his health and safety. This latest chapter in his career is sure to showcase his growth and potential as a welterweight contender.
