Boston Doctor Arrested for Lewd Acts on Aircraft, Victim Was 14-Year-Old Girl
A Boston doctor has been arrested in connection with lewd acts on an aircraft. According to the Department of Justice, Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, a 33-year-old internal medicine and primary care doctor, was taken into custody on Thursday. The incident took place on a Hawaiian Airlines Flight from Honolulu to Boston in May 2022.
The victim, a 14-year-old girl, was seated next to Dr. Mohanty during the flight. It is alleged that he engaged in inappropriate behavior, including masturbating and exposing himself. The charging documents state that the victim noticed Dr. Mohanty with a blanket up to his neck and observed his leg bouncing. Later, the blanket was on the floor, no longer covering him, and he was seen masturbating.
Disturbed by the doctor’s actions, the young girl moved to an empty seat in a different row for the remainder of the flight. Upon reaching Boston, she immediately informed her family about the incident, who then notified law enforcement.
Dr. Mohanty has been charged with one count of lewd, indecent, and obscene acts while in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States. The seriousness of the accusations is not lost on law enforcement. Christopher DiMenna, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Boston, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, What Dr. Mohanty is accused of doing in front of a fourteen-year-old girl is reprehensible. He also urged victims and witnesses of crimes aboard aircraft to report them promptly.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that everyone, especially children, has the right to travel without being exposed to lewd conduct. He stated, If you engage in the type of illicit behavior alleged here, you will be caught and held accountable wherever it happens.
If convicted, Dr. Mohanty could face up to 90 days in prison, up to one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $5,000.
This incident serves as a stark reminder that crimes committed aboard aircraft are taken seriously by the FBI and law enforcement agencies. The FBI encourages victims and witnesses to come forward with information, not only about sexual misconduct but also regarding assault, interference with flight crew members, and theft. These actions should not be tolerated, and authorities are committed to addressing them swiftly and bringing offenders to justice.
As the case unfolds, the focus turns to ensuring justice is served. Dr. Mohanty, who practices in Boston, is now required to face the consequences of his alleged actions. The incident serves as a somber reminder that individuals in positions of trust and authority should be held accountable for their behavior.
The arrest of Dr. Sudipta Mohanty serves as a warning that inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated, especially when it involves minors. The hope is that this case will raise awareness and encourage victims to speak up, knowing that their concerns will be taken seriously. As investigations continue, our society must strive to create a safe environment in which everyone can travel without fear of indecent behavior.
