Man Fakes Own Kidnapping in Mumbai to Extort Money from Father Due to Inability to Repay Debt

A 27-year-old man from Mumbai was arrested for allegedly faking his own kidnapping in an attempt to receive ransom money from his father to pay off his debt. Jitendra Joshi, the accused, reportedly made a WhatsApp call to his wife and threatened her, demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakhs for his safe return. The family alerted the police, who found Joshi in under 12 hours. Upon interrogation, Joshi admitted to faking his own kidnapping to receive money from his father. The accused has been arrested for his actions and has been sent to police custody until June 3. Further investigation is currently ongoing.
