Renovation Works Underway for ICC T20 World Cup 2023 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is gearing up for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2023 by undertaking essential renovation works at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The quadrennial extravaganza, scheduled for October and November, will see the stadium host five matches.
Following a recent inspection by the International Cricket Council (ICC) team, the KSCA has commenced the necessary renovation works, including refurbishing the stands, adding new seats, and renewing the toilets in the stadium. Raghuram Bhatt, the president of the KSCA, expressed his aim to provide the best possible facilities at the venue, which already boasts top-class amenities.
The matches scheduled to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 include Australia vs Pakistan on October 20, England vs Sri Lanka on October 26, New Zealand vs Pakistan on November 4, New Zealand vs Sri Lanka on November 9, and India vs Netherlands on November 12.
The ICC members, while satisfied with the match readiness of the venue, had suggested some minor adjustments to the existing facilities, which will be implemented in preparation for the tournament.
Apart from hosting the World Cup, the KSCA will also be busy welcoming several international and national teams for off-season training in the coming months. Recently, the UP Warriorz, a team from the Women’s Premier League, completed a week-long training in Bengaluru. Additionally, state teams such as Gujarat, Baroda, and Chhattisgarh will arrive in the city for practice matches in the coming weeks. Furthermore, there have been requests from English county sides to train in Bengaluru, adding to the KSCA’s responsibilities.
To meet the high demand for cricketing venues, the KSCA is planning to add more stadiums in the state. Locations in Kolar, Hasan, Mangalore, and Karvar have already been identified for the development of new cricket grounds.
In other news, the upcoming KSCA T20 tournament, scheduled from August 13 to 29, will be closely monitored by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). In response to the KSCA’s request, the ACU will deploy a chief officer and six officials to oversee all six participating teams. This measure aims to maintain the integrity of the game, the tournament, and the association.
As preparations continue for the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 and upcoming tournaments, the KSCA remains committed to providing excellent facilities and ensuring fair play and integrity in the sport.
