The executive engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, Arun Shrivastava, has been suspended and transferred to Bhopal for carrying out irregularities related to the Lalbarra water project. The investigation found that Shrivastava made payments worth Rs 132 crore without inviting any tenders. Moreover, he threatened the officer involved in the inquiry into the case. The department revealed that Shrivastava was also involved in irregularities in 400 single tenders. Local legislator Sanjay Uike raised the issue of corruption in the water project in the House and asked for the number of laborers engaged in the project from 2020 to this year. Shrivastava failed to give any answer, indicating a potential cover-up. After an official inquiry, corruption worth crores of rupees came to light, resulting in Shrivastava’s suspension. The government treated the case as financial irregularity and ordered an inquiry.
