Over 300 people in Chhattisgarh, India, including two Padma Shri awardees and a former IAS officer, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Assembly elections. Padma Shri recipients Ajun Sharma and Radheyshyam Barle, and former IAS Rajpal Singh Tyagi, joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s state president Arun Sao, Chhattisgarh’s incharge Om Mathur, former Chief Minister and BJP national vice-president Raman Singh, and other senior leaders. Sao welcomed the new members, which include 13 artists awarded with state awards and internationally recognized personalities. This is a good sign for the party, said Sao. He added that the event confirms that the countdown for the exit of the Congress-led government in Chhattisgarh had started. The public is looking towards the BJP with hope and trust, he added. With the misrule of the Congress government, people in large numbers entered the BJP to weed out Congress from the state, he concluded.
