The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, has stated that the PM SVANidhi scheme has one of the fastest roll-outs amongst all government schemes. Speaking at an event marking the completion of three years of the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi, Puri said that the scheme, launched to help street vendors receive easy loans, has led to financial inclusion and digital literacy in the country’s cities and small towns. The PM SVANidhi scheme aimed to promote self-employment with self-sustenance and self-confidence among street vendors, and has become one of the fastest growing microcredit schemes, enabling people to access credit and social security schemes. As of June 30, 2023, the scheme facilitated working capital loans in three tranches to over 36 lakh street vendors across India. Additionally, Puri recently launched a mobile app to ease the loan application process and interacted with beneficiaries of the scheme.
