Air India Express and AirAsia India, both owned by Tata Group, have recruited more than 800 trainee cabin crew members in the past year. Air India Express, the international budget arm of Air India, has also added over 280 pilots in the same time frame. The diverse pool of candidates was sourced through joint walk-in recruitment drives held across metro cities and small towns. Last year, Tata Group acquired Air India and its subsidiaries, including Air India Express and a 50% stake in ground handling firm Air India SATS Airport Services. The group currently fully owns three airlines, Air India, Air India Express and AirAsia India, and holds a 51% ownership in Vistara, a joint venture airline with Singapore Airlines that is in the process of being merged with Air India. The large-scale recruitment is a significant step towards the ongoing merger of AirAsia India with Air India Express. Following the selection process, trainees were intensively trained at Air India Express’ Mumbai facility.
