The two-day Farooq Memorial Open Taekwondo Championships recently took place at the Sher-E-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The event, organized by the JK Taekwondo Association, was held in honor of the late Janab Farooq Ahmed, who was a distinguished founder of Taekwondo in Kashmir.
The event was aptly themed My Youth, My Pride and saw over 700 participants from various weight categories and age groups from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Director of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chhibber, was the Chief Guest, accompanied by Rouf Ahmed Bhat, Sports Promoter Under Secretary to the Government, while Ishfaq Ahmed, former international football player and head coach of Kerala Blasters Football Club, was the Guest of Honour.
Chhibber commended the participants’ enthusiasm and passion for the sport and also praised the JK Taekwondo Association for their relentless efforts in promoting Taekwondo in Jammu and Kashmir.
Medals were awarded to deserving winners of the tournament, while coaches and referees received special mementoes as a token of appreciation for their valuable contribution.
The medalists at the event will represent JK at the upcoming LG Cup All India Taekwondo Championships in 2023, showcasing their skills and determination on a national level.
Overall, the Farooq Memorial Open Taekwondo Championships were a great success, and the event undoubtedly served as an excellent platform for participants to showcase their talent and passion for sports.
