Police Rescue 363 Kidnap Victims and Arrest Over 9,000 Criminal Suspects
In the past two months, the Nigerian Police have conducted successful operations resulting in the rescue of 363 kidnap victims. These individuals were safely reunited with their families, bringing much-needed relief to their loved ones. Furthermore, during these operations, law enforcement agencies were able to apprehend over 9,000 criminal suspects involved in various illegal activities.
The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, announced these impressive figures during a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. He highlighted the concerted efforts of the police force in dismantling criminal gangs that have been instilling fear within communities across the country.
The arrests and recoveries were made as part of a series of covert and overt operations meticulously tailored to combat the activities of these criminal elements. During these operations, a significant number of firearms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles were seized from the suspects. Among the recovered items were firearms of various calibers, including the notorious AK47 assault rifles. A total of 520 firearms, 4,043 assorted ammunition, and 264 stolen vehicles were confiscated.
The Inspector General of Police expressed the commitment of the force to eradicate criminality and the heinous activities perpetrated by non-state actors throughout the country. He affirmed that no stone would be left unturned in the fight against crime.
Furthermore, the IG commended the exceptional conduct of police personnel during recent protests by citizens and organized labor. He appraised their professionalism, which ensured that the protests remained peaceful without any casualties. He also lauded the Nigerian citizens and labor leaders for conducting themselves in the most exemplary manner throughout the demonstrations.
In light of these developments, the Inspector General of Police issued a directive to all Commissioners of Police to establish direct liaisons and collaborate with Labor Unions and Civil Society Organizations. The goal is to ensure that future labor-related protests, rallies, and public activities transpire peacefully and without any incident. It is an effort to maintain the harmony and security of the Nigerian people.
