The Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the power tariff by 5 paise per unit for domestic consumers in rural and urban areas. Rural consumers will now pay Rs 5.80 per unit as opposed to Rs 5.75, whereas urban consumers will pay Rs 6.30 per unit as compared to Rs 6.25. The new tariff was implemented on Thursday. The commission has approved an average hike of 6.5% as against the distribution company’s proposed 17%. The fixed charges have been increased by Rs 30 for rural consumers and Rs 25 for urban consumers. There is no increase in tariff for consumers in irrigation and agriculture service categories. The commission has proposed to provide a rebate of 2% on payment of bills within five days of generation to encourage and promote rooftop solar. The commission has retained the tariff for rooftop solar PV projects which are gross metered at Rs 4.16/kWh and net metered at Rs 3.80/kWh.
