Invest Sri Lanka Investor Forums in India: Promoting Portfolio Investments & Economic Opportunities

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is organizing a series of forums called Invest Sri Lanka in partnership with Stock Broker Firms. These forums aim to promote foreign portfolio investment into the Sri Lankan Stock Market by showcasing investment opportunities in leading Sri Lankan listed companies. Previously, similar forums have been conducted in key foreign markets such as the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, India, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

This year, the CSE, in association with the Confederation of the Indian Industry (CII) and Stock Broker Firms, will be hosting Investor Forums in India. The forums will take place in Chennai on August 9, 2023, at the Taj Coromandel Hotel, and in Mumbai on August 11, 2023, at the Taj Lands End Hotel. The aim is to attract portfolio investments into the Sri Lankan Capital Market.

The decision to reactivate the Invest Sri Lanka Investor Forums was driven by the desire to increase foreign investor inflows to Sri Lanka. The Colombo Bourse is currently highly competitive compared to its peer markets in the region. In 2022 and 2023, the CSE has witnessed positive net foreign inflows, and the All-Share Price Index (ASPI), the main market index, has increased by 36% Year-to-Date.

The keynote speeches at the forums in Chennai and Mumbai will be delivered by the State Minister of Finance Sri Lanka, Hon. Shehan Semasinghe.

A Sri Lankan delegation, including senior representatives from CSE, SEC, Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), and representatives from 16 stockbroker firms, will be part of these forums. Together, they will make a collective case for Sri Lanka as an attractive investment destination.

The forums will consist of multiple sessions covering the country’s present economic outlook, market analysis, and investment opportunities in the Sri Lankan Stock Market.

A panel discussion will also be held at both forums, involving the State Minister of Finance, Sri Lanka, CSE Chairman Mr. Dilshan Wirasekara, CBSL Director of Research Dr. P.K.G Harischandra, and SEC Director General Mr. Chinthaka Mendis. The discussion will be moderated by CSE CEO Mr. Rajeeva Bandaranaike.

The Platinum Sponsors for both the Chennai and Mumbai forums are Asia Securities and First Capital Holdings PLC. Additionally, Almas Equities is a Gold Sponsor for the Mumbai forum. The forums are supported by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the Board of Investments (BOI).

This news indicates an opportunity for foreign investors to explore the potential of the Sri Lankan Stock Market. With the Colombo Bourse performing strongly and attractive investment opportunities available, the Invest Sri Lanka Investor Forums aim to facilitate portfolio investments and boost the inflow of foreign funds. By showcasing leading Sri Lankan listed companies, the forums aim to highlight the lucrative prospects of investing in Sri Lanka.
