Karnataka’s Mekedatu project slammed by Palaniswami for potential desertification of Tamil Nadu

The rivalry between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has taken a new turn as Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK interim general secretary, Edappadi Palaniswami, has warned of protests if Karnataka goes ahead with the construction of the Mekedatu project. According to Palaniswami, the project will transform Tamil Nadu into a desert. He criticized the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu for not reacting to the issue. Responding to the issue, Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan reiterated the State’s stance on the project, saying that Tamil Nadu would oppose the project in all ways possible. The Mekedatu project in the Cauvery river basin has been at the center of controversy between both states.
