In response to the ongoing violence in Manipur, Rajiv Singh, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for the northeastern state. He replaces P Doungel, who has been transferred to the post of OSD (Home). The Governor of Manipur issued an official order announcing the reshuffle. The violence in Manipur has caused around 60 deaths and the destruction of many homes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state to assess the situation and has announced that a committee led by a retired judge will investigate incidents of violence in Manipur. Additionally, a special CBI team will investigate cases of violence, and a peace committee with members of civil society will be headed by the Governor of Manipur. High-level CBI investigations into six incidents of violence that hint at a conspiracy will also be carried out.
