Food Pantry at Salt Creek Resource Center Receives $7,000 Grant for Improved Shelving

The Salt Creek Resource Center’s food pantry in Farmer City is getting a much-needed upgrade, thanks to a generous $7,000 grant from the Bayer Fund. The grant will be used to purchase new food-grade shelving to enhance the storage capacity of the pantry. With over 46,000 pounds of food to be stored, this improvement will greatly benefit the clients in DeWitt County and the Blue Ridge school district.

Center Director Marcia Turpin expressed her gratitude for the grant, emphasizing the common goal shared by the fund and the food pantry to support thriving communities. The funds will enable the organization to invest in sturdy, food-grade shelving to ensure the safe storage of their food supplies.

This is not the first time the food pantry has received support from the Bayer Fund. In the past year, they received a grant that allowed them to acquire stainless-steel tables for handling food and a new upright freezer for additional storage. These investments have significantly contributed to the pantry’s ability to meet the needs of the local community.

President Al Mitchell of the Bayer Fund highlighted their commitment to making a lasting impact in communities across the United States by supporting organizations like the Salt Creek Resource Center Food Pantry. Mitchell acknowledged the critical issue of food insecurity and expressed pride in partnering to provide access to healthy and nutritious food for more people.

In 2022 alone, the Bayer Fund awarded a remarkable $13.4 million to over 2,700 charitable organizations nationwide. These grants focused on addressing essential needs, such as food and nutrition, STEM education, and health and wellness. Since 2017, the fund has contributed nearly $90 million to nonprofit organizations across the country, making a significant difference in various communities.

The Salt Creek Resource Center Food Pantry’s ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity have been commendable. With the support of the Bayer Fund and the local community, they continue to expand their outreach and help those in need. By investing in improved shelving and storage facilities, they are ensuring that their clients have access to a consistent supply of healthy food.

This grant not only demonstrates the Bayer Fund’s dedication to corporate social responsibility but also highlights the power of collaboration and community support in addressing critical societal issues. The positive impact of such initiatives reverberates far beyond the immediate recipients, extending to families, students, and individuals who now have access to nutritious meals.

The Salt Creek Resource Center Food Pantry’s commitment to providing assistance to those facing food insecurity has made them a vital resource in the community. With the help of the Bayer Fund’s latest grant, they are better equipped to store and distribute food to their clients efficiently.

The Salt Creek Resource Center Food Pantry’s collaboration with the Bayer Fund sets an inspiring example for other organizations working towards similar goals. By cultivating partnerships and leveraging resources, communities can come together to make a real and sustainable difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. With continued support, organizations like the Salt Creek Resource Center Food Pantry can ensure that no one goes hungry in their community.
