Logging Truck Crash Injures Two in Rhode Island, Causes Power Outages
A logging truck crash in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, has left two people injured and caused power outages in the area. The incident took place on Saturday around 2 p.m. and involved the logging truck colliding with three other vehicles, resulting in a chain reaction of accidents.
According to the Portsmouth Assistant Fire Chief, Howie Tighe, the driver of a black Mercedes was trapped underneath enormous logs from the lumber truck when it crashed into a telephone pole. Additionally, one vehicle involved in the crash was struck head-on by another vehicle. Firefighters had to work diligently to rescue the trapped Mercedes driver, who sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital along with the logs. Another person involved in the crash sustained minor injuries but was also taken to the hospital for further examination.
Fortunately, the driver of the Bill’s Sales truck, which was responsible for the logging operation, remained unharmed and remained at the scene. Rhode Island State Police and Portsmouth Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the factors that led up to the crash.
In addition to the personal injuries sustained, the crash also resulted in power outages in the surrounding neighborhood. The telephone pole that was struck during the accident caused a leakage in a transformer, leaving dozens of residents without electricity.
