A helicopter door unexpectedly fell from the sky and landed on the roof of a furniture store in Fort Myers, Florida. The incident occurred as the store was preparing to open for the day on August 2. Luckily, no one was injured, and the building sustained no damage.
Employees at Leaders Furniture on U.S. 41 heard a loud noise around 10 a.m. and initially believed a vehicle had crashed into the building. However, upon inspection, they couldn’t find any signs of a collision. Moments later, police arrived and requested access to the store’s roof. To their surprise, they discovered a black helicopter door lying on top of the building.
Authorities from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Iona McGregor Fire District quickly arrived at the scene and safely retrieved the fallen door. Thankfully, the incident caused no harm to anyone and caused no structural damage to the building.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the door belonged to a Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm Bo 105 helicopter. The aircraft had landed without any issues at Page Field Airport, located roughly two miles from the furniture store. The FAA further stated that there were five people on board the helicopter, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the FAA launched an investigation to determine the cause of the door detachment and ensure the safe operation of the helicopter in question. The furniture store was able to open for business as usual, grateful that the situation did not escalate into a more severe incident.

While the store employees initially feared a calamity, they were relieved to learn that it was nothing more than a helicopter door falling from the sky.
