A 38-year-old man from Rockford, Edin O. Portillo Lopez’s arrest came in July 2022 when the Rockford Police Department executed a warrant as part of a Bloomington police investigation. It was revealed that at the time of the offenses, he was living and working in Bloomington. Initially facing 16 counts of child pornography, 10 counts of criminal sexual assault, and 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse, the remaining charges were dismissed as part of his plea agreement.
Apart from the 37-year prison sentence, Judge William Yoder ordered Portillo Lopez to pay a minimum of $6,000 in fines. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and serve a term of mandatory supervised release ranging from three years to life.
