The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has called on Panjab University in Chandigarh to reverse its decision to remove Punjabi as a mandatory subject for graduation-level courses in all of its affiliated colleges. The SAD warned the university that Punjab residents would not tolerate discrimination against their mother tongue. Senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema has said that members of the university syndicate who support the decision do not deserve to remain in their positions. He has urged the Vice-Chancellor to reverse the decision immediately.
