Former India Pacer Slams Lackluster Performance as West Indies Takes 2-0 Lead in T20I Series

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has expressed his disappointment over the lackluster performance of the Indian cricket team in the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies. After the West Indies secured a 2-0 lead, Prasad launched a scathing attack on the players, particularly Hardik Pandya and the team’s overall intensity.

Prasad had previously highlighted India’s subpar performances in white-ball cricket, and he continued to critique the team’s display, emphasizing the need for greater hunger to win. He pointed out a specific instance in the match where leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made a breakthrough by taking two wickets in the 16th over. However, captain Hardik Pandya chose not to continue with Chahal and instead relied on pacers Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar to finish the game in the 18th and 19th overs. Unfortunately, this decision backfired as Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein scored 26 runs in the last four overs, ultimately leading West Indies to victory.

Expressing his disappointment on Twitter, Prasad criticized the team’s lack of smart decision-making during crucial moments. He mentioned that India’s record in T20 World Cups has been unsatisfactory since the 2007 victory, with only one appearance in the finals despite seven attempts. Prasad stressed the importance of being smarter in crucial situations rather than sticking to textbook strategies.

The Indian cricket team now faces the possibility of a series defeat against West Indies in T20Is for the first time since 2016. To avoid this, they must deliver a remarkable turnaround in the third T20I, which will be held in Guyana on Tuesday, August 8.

India’s fans are eagerly awaiting a strong comeback from the team, hoping that the players will demonstrate a greater hunger to win and show a higher level of intensity on the field. The series is far from over, and Indian cricket enthusiasts are optimistic that their team will bounce back with renewed vigor and secure a victory in the upcoming matches.

This critical phase will test the team’s resilience and the ability of its young talents to handle pressure situations. It remains to be seen how the team, under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, will respond to the mounting pressure and rise to the occasion.

Overall, critics and fans alike are hoping for a much-improved performance from the Indian cricket team in the remaining matches of the T20I series against West Indies. Whether they can turn the tide and clinch victory or not, only time will tell.
