MTA Launches Limited Edition Hip-Hop MetroCards with LL Cool J and Pop Smoke, United States

MTA, in collaboration with Universal Music Enterprises, has launched a series of limited edition MetroCards featuring iconic New York City rappers. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and New York City’s significant role in the genre’s history, the MTA has introduced MetroCards adorned with the portraits of LL Cool J, Rakim, Cam’ron, and Pop Smoke.

Currently, only LL Cool J and Pop Smoke’s stylized MetroCards are available for purchase. LL Cool J’s cards can be found at the Forest Hills-71st Avenue station, which is also the location of his Rock The Bells festival. On the other hand, Pop Smoke’s cards can be picked up at the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway station and the New Lots Avenue station. Rakim and Cam’ron’s MetroCards will be made available later this month.

A total of 40,000 MetroCards featuring LL Cool J and Pop Smoke have been released by the MTA. An equal number of MetroCards showcasing Rakim and Cam’ron will soon be made available at machines throughout the city.

The MTA’s initiative aims to pay tribute to the influential rappers who have shaped the hip-hop landscape in New York City.
