A shooter barricaded himself in a mobile home in Van Buren Township, Michigan on Sunday following a non-fatal shooting. Authorities believe there may be a link between this incident and a homicide that occurred in the area a few days earlier.
The incident unfolded around 12:15 p.m. on August 6, when multiple gunshots were reported at the Van Buren Estates mobile home park. The shooter allegedly targeted a man and his dog, injuring both before retreating into a nearby home and barricading himself inside.
Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene within seconds of the reports and swiftly identified the mobile home where the shooter had taken refuge. Interestingly, the home reportedly belongs to the shooter’s mother. Police had already been patrolling the area since Friday, when a fatal shooting had taken place near the Van Buren Estates.
Authorities surrounded the mobile home on Sunday after the shooter refused to leave. Following negotiations that lasted over an hour, the shooter surrendered and was taken into custody.
During the standoff, residents were advised to shelter in place as a safety precaution. This order was lifted at approximately 1:33 p.m.
Investigations suggest that the shooter, whose identity remains undisclosed, may also be responsible for the previous fatal shooting near the mobile home park on August 4. The body of a victim was discovered in a field just north of the residential area that day.
