According to a recent survey conducted by Xealth, a leader in enabling digital health at scale, 90% of healthcare executives are embracing digital health despite facing financial challenges. The online survey, conducted between May 15 and June 20, 2023, targeted members of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
The survey revealed that a majority of executive respondents (90.5%) have already adopted digital health solutions, making it clear that the healthcare industry is embracing the shift towards digital transformation. However, it also highlighted some barriers to adoption, with almost half of respondents (47.6%) citing financial pressures and 19.1% citing staff resource constraints.
Interestingly, the survey found that 81% of healthcare executives have integrated digital health applications into their Electronic Health Record (EHR) workflow. Additionally, 19.1% stated that they had achieved advanced EHR integration with defined goals and metrics for digital health applications.
Mike McSherry, CEO and co-founder of Xealth, expressed his satisfaction with the survey results, stating, In an industry that is notoriously slow to change, digital health has been relatively fast at reaching a tipping point. He also emphasized the potential of digital health, highlighting the widespread support from C-level executives and the connection between bottom-line growth and reduced readmissions with digital health.
Xealth, which spun out of Providence in 2017, aims to scale digital health programs and enable clinicians to integrate, prescribe, and monitor digital health tools for patients. Through their platform, clinicians can easily find and order the appropriate digital health tools and programs directly from the EHR workflow. They can then send these orders to the patient via email or patient portals, while also monitoring activity.
The survey findings demonstrate the growing adoption of digital health solutions in the healthcare industry, despite the financial challenges faced by healthcare executives. As digital programs continue to mature and establish best practices, it is expected that the percentage of healthcare executives embracing digital health will continue to rise.
