On Monday, 7 August, a new witness is set to testify in the trial of the five men accused of the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa.

During the previous week, two cellphone data analysts from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Colonel Lambertus Steyn and Sergeant Moses Mabasa, as well as two neighbors, Khaya Ngcatshe and Nthabiseng Mokete, and Meyiwa’s close friend, Mthokozisi Thwala, concluded their testimonies.

When goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot, his close friends Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala, along with Longwe Twala, his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo, and her two children Christian and Thingo were present.

They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a license, and possession of ammunition. All five have pleaded not guilty as the trial restarts under Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng.
