Jammu and Kashmir has been approved for 12 additional DNB seats by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Science. The move is aimed at improving public healthcare in the state, and the new seats will be added to the 270 DNB seats that have already been granted. The approved seats are for various departments, including two for Orthopedics at Srinagar Hospital, two for Paediatrics at GMC Rajouri, two for Surgery at DH Poonch, two for General Medicine at DH Reasi, and four seats for the Department of Anesthesiology at GMC Baramulla. The initiative has been praised for its implementation of DNB courses at the district level, which is considered a best practice in the country. The program aims to address the shortage of specialists in Jammu and Kashmir and decongest government medical colleges. It will also lead to an equitable distribution of healthcare services in hard-to-reach areas, leading to low referrals from DNB institutions to tertiary care institutions.
