Bryson DeChambeau Makes History with Record-Breaking 58 at LIV Greenbrier

In a stunning display of golf mastery, Bryson DeChambeau achieved a record-breaking round of 58 at the LIV Greenbrier tournament, securing his first victory on the course. DeChambeau’s remarkable feat not only earned him the individual title but also etched his name in golf history.

DeChambeau’s journey to his historic round began with a second-round score of 61, signaling his intention to contend at the Old White Course. As he completed the final round, it became clear that he had a firm grip on the tournament.

Less than three hours later, DeChambeau was celebrating a triumph that would forever be etched in the annals of golf. With a final putt from 40 feet on the 18th hole, DeChambeau sealed his victory with a remarkable score of 58. This extraordinary achievement makes him the first golfer in LIV history to achieve a sub-60 round, establishes a new course record, and ranks as only the second 58 ever recorded between the PGA Tour and LIV.

Surpassing expectations, DeChambeau reflected on his unprecedented accomplishment. He remarked, Going 61-58, it’s a possibility I never thought I would do at The Greenbrier, never thought I’d do it over the course of my career even. DeChambeau credited his success to feeling comfortable with his tee shots and being able to play the course as it was designed. His caddie, Greg Bodine, provided valuable support to keep DeChambeau focused and calm throughout the intense round.

DeChambeau’s remarkable round commenced with two birdies, followed by a par on the third hole. He then delivered an astonishing performance by securing four consecutive birdies on holes 4-7, including an impressive shot from a bunker on the fifth hole.

Despite encountering a challenging par-3 eighth hole that resulted in his lone bogey of the round, DeChambeau made an immediate comeback with two consecutive birdies. This relentless pursuit of excellence continued as he converted a short birdie effort on the twelfth hole, one of the two par 5s on the course. DeChambeau maintained his momentum, recording pars on the 13th and 14th holes.

As DeChambeau entered the par-3 15th hole, a gentle rain began to fall. However, this inclement weather failed to impede his unyielding performance. With a precise tee shot and a birdie putt on the 15th hole, DeChambeau remained unwavering in his pursuit of victory. The following hole, the par-4 16th, witnessed another remarkable birdie after an ideal drive.

The 17th hole proved to be another highlight for DeChambeau as he secured his twelfth birdie of the round, meaning he birdied all six par 5s throughout the tournament. Finally, on the last hole, DeChambeau’s tee shot landed favorably, albeit spinning back onto the green, leaving him with a lengthy birdie attempt to break the course record.

With unwavering confidence, DeChambeau executed a flawless putt that found its way into the hole, signaling the momentous occasion and triggering a jubilant celebration from DeChambeau and Bodine. DeChambeau expressed his delight, saying, It was quite a funny exchange afterward. Probably the greatest moment in my golf career.

Mito Pereira emerged as DeChambeau’s closest challenger throughout the round. Pereira’s impressive performance included an eagle hole-out on the second hole, affirming his talent and determination. However, a costly bogey on the twelfth hole dashed his hopes of clinching the individual title, and he ultimately finished six shots behind DeChambeau.

Richard Bland, David Puig, and Matthew Wolff finished in a three-way tie for third place at 16-under par. Bland showcased his skill by delivering a bogey-free round of 65 on the final day.

In the team championship, Torque, consisting of Pereira, Puig, Joaquin Niemann, and Sebastian Munoz, emerged victorious, finishing 49-under par. Their closest competitors, the Crushers, which included DeChambeau, secured second place at 46-under par. Torque’s success adds to their impressive record this season, having won four out of LIV’s ten events.

The LIV Greenbrier tournament provided golf enthusiasts and spectators with an unforgettable display of skill and determination. Bryson DeChambeau’s record-breaking triumph will undoubtedly go down in history, marking a significant milestone in his already illustrious career. As the season progresses, golf fans eagerly await the next chapter of these extraordinary athletes’ journey.
