Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma received a warm welcome in California as he attended an event in Milpitas. The fans surrounded him as soon as he stepped out of his car, eager to take selfies and get his autograph.
Rohit Sharma has been taking a break from cricket after the T20Is and ODIs, but he will be back in action with the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023, which starts on August 30. Before heading back home after the Caribbean tour, he made a visit to the United States, where he received a rousing reception from his fans.
A video of Rohit surrounded by fans was shared on Twitter by Jeevan Santhosh, a San Francisco-based individual. The clip quickly went viral, showcasing the immense popularity of the Indian captain even outside his home country.
During the event, Rohit Sharma also spoke about the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies next year. He expressed his excitement and said, More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming up. In June (next), there will be a World Cup happening in this part of the world. So, I’m pretty sure everyone is excited. So yeah, we look forward to that.
While Rohit didn’t specifically mention if he hopes to be part of the Indian squad for the tournament, his enthusiasm for it was evident. India seems to have already started their preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup, even as the focus remains on the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is set to begin in less than two months.
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested from the ongoing five-match T20I series against the West Indies, with India giving opportunities to young players. However, the Indian team’s attention is gradually shifting towards the T20 World Cup, with the West Indies tour serving as a stepping stone in their preparations.
