Vietnamese Blood Donors Save Lives: 100 Outstanding Contributors Honored Nationally

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has witnessed numerous selfless acts of blood donation, with people from all walks of life actively participating in giving the gift of life to those in need. In a recent three-day program held in the capital city of Hanoi, the nation recognized and honored 100 exceptional blood donors from across the country.

Among the honored donors were 20 remarkable women, 16 representatives from the education sector, eight medical professionals, seven members of the armed forces, and three individuals from ethnic minorities. The range of ages varied, with the oldest delegate being 61 years old and the youngest, 22 years old.

Highlighted in this exceptional group were 10 donors who had given blood between 19 and 29 times, 60 donors who had contributed between 30 and 49 times, 20 donors who had given blood between 50 and 69 times, eight donors who had donated between 70 and 99 times, and two donors who had each given blood at least 100 times.

One of the outstanding donors, Tran Minh Men, a 52-year-old man, has selflessly donated blood a staggering 102 times over the past 22 years. Men now serves as the head of the Blood Bank Team in Nghi Duc commune, Tanh Linh district, located in the country’s south-central province of Binh Thuan. Notably, he has also been instrumental in inspiring over 3,000 others to participate in blood donation campaigns.

According to Men, the greatest joy for those who engage in blood donation campaigns is seeing patients regain their health and return to normal life. Through his continuous efforts, Men has made a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals in need.

Another remarkable donor is Ho Kim Phuong, a resident of Ho Chi Minh City, who holds the record for the highest number of blood donations by a female donor, with an incredible 78 donations. Since 1997, Phuong has faithfully donated blood every three months, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to giving back to society.

Phuong shared her motivation, saying, Having witnessed many difficult and extreme situations, I always think that I can provide what I am capable of and help someone with what I have. My blood is available in my body, so I can use it to help people and support life as long as I am healthy. In fact, my whole family actively participates in blood donation campaigns. Together, we have donated blood over 250 times, with my husband contributing 72 times, my daughter 52 times, and my son 48 times.

Over the past 15 years, Vietnam has recognized and honored a total of 1,500 voluntary blood donors nationwide. In the previous year alone, over 1.43 million units of blood were donated across the country, with an impressive 99% of the blood coming from voluntary donors.

Since the beginning of this year, various campaigns have gathered approximately 900,000 units of blood, highlighting the unwavering commitment of the Vietnamese people to saving lives through blood donation.

The exceptional dedication and generosity demonstrated by these outstanding blood donors serve as an inspiration to all. Their selfless acts of giving have not only saved lives but also created a positive impact on society as a whole. Such remarkable contributions reinforce the critical importance of blood donation and serve as a testament to the noble spirit of the Vietnamese people.

In recognition of their extraordinary efforts, these outstanding donors were honored by the nation, bringing well-deserved attention to their invaluable contributions.
