Delhi’s Patiala House Court has sent Lawrence Bishnoi to judicial custody until June 14 in connection with an illegal arms supply case involving the Bishnoi-Jathedi gang. Bishnoi was produced via video conferencing after being interrogated by the police for four days. The Special Cell of Delhi police stated that further police custody was not required while the investigation is ongoing. The CMM also examined a medical report stating that Bishnoi had not eaten in four days, after which he was visited by the judge. Bishnoi claimed to be fasting, surviving on liquids and coconut water.
The case concerns the recovery of 25 pistols from arms trafficker Mukund Singh, who allegedly supplied weapons to the Bishnoi-Jathedi gang. The Delhi police had requested four days of custody to identify gang members, locate their weapons stockpiles and apprehend additional members of the gang. The police had also requested permission to interrogate Bishnoi to confront him with Singh, who is already in PC remand for this case.
The accused Lawrence Bishnoi has been in the news for years. He is a member of the Bishnoi community, known for its conservationist beliefs, and hails from Rajasthan. Bishoni has been linked with various crimes committed in Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh, and is believed to have inspired the attack on Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2017 for his portrayal of Rani Padmini.
