Nepal is set to make its debut in the upcoming Asia Cup cricket tournament, facing powerhouses Pakistan and India. The competition, which acts as a precursor to the ODI World Cup, will feature 50-over matches ahead of the main event in India later this year.

Due to security concerns, India’s government decided against sending their team to tour Pakistan. As a result, a hybrid model was implemented to ensure the tournament could proceed. Although Pakistan retains hosting rights, fewer matches will actually be held there. The opening match will take place in Multan, followed by three more matches in Lahore. The remainder of the tournament will be held in Sri Lanka, culminating in the final match in Colombo on September 17.

Sri Lanka enters the competition as the defending champions, having surprised their more renowned rivals by winning in the T20 format in Dubai last year. India holds the record for the most Asia Cup victories, with seven titles to their name, and Sri Lanka follows close behind with six.

Nepal is set to become the eighth country to participate in the Asia Cup, marking an important milestone for the nation’s cricketing journey. While Nepal may not be a prominent force in mainstream cricket, the sport enjoys a significant following in the country. As a result, Nepal’s matches in the tournament are expected to attract significant attention.

Nepal’s campaign will commence with a match against Pakistan, which will be the only game held in Multan. Multan’s stadium boasts the largest attendance among Pakistan’s cricket venues and typically attracts passionate home support. Following their match against Pakistan, Nepal will face off against India in the picturesque hill town of Pallekele, near Kandy, just two days later.

The Asia Cup promises to deliver thrilling cricket action and showcase the skills and talent of teams from across the continent. With the inclusion of Nepal, the tournament will provide an opportunity for the country to gain international recognition and compete against some of the cricketing world’s strongest teams.

The stage is set for an exciting and highly anticipated tournament in which Nepal will make its mark and all participating teams will strive for victory. Cricket enthusiasts around the world are eagerly awaiting the opening match in Multan, which will signal the beginning of an unforgettable chapter in Asian cricket.
