Saints’ Cameron Jordan Signs 2-Year Extension, Pledges Loyalty

Cameron Jordan, the career sacks leader for the New Orleans Saints, has agreed to a two-year contract extension, indicating his loyalty to the team. This extension could potentially keep the defensive end with the Saints for a remarkable 15 seasons in the NFL.

At a news conference attended by his family, Jordan expressed his commitment to the black and gold colors of the Saints. He stated that becoming a football star in New Orleans has become an integral part of his identity. He values the relationships he has built with friends and fans throughout the years, considering them to be like family.

Selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft, Jordan is entering the final year of a three-year, $52.5 million contract extension he signed in 2019. The two-year extension is reportedly worth $27.5 million.

Unlike many NFL players seeking contract extensions who choose to hold out, the 34-year-old Jordan fully participated in training camp, only taking a veteran’s day off once his deal was finalized. He remains focused on honing his skills and contributing as much as possible to the team.

Last season, Jordan led the Saints in sacks with a total of 8.5, bringing his career sack total to a record-breaking 115.5, surpassing Ricky Jackson’s previous record of 115 with the franchise. Jordan’s accomplishments also include 15 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

The Saints’ defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, praised Jordan for his overall performance and versatility on the field. According to Allen, Jordan is the best well-rounded defensive end in the league, capable of excelling in both run defense and pass rushing situations. Allen believes there are still plenty of productive snaps left in Jordan.

In addition to his exceptional on-field performance, Jordan has displayed incredible durability throughout his career, missing only two regular-season games out of 194. He has also played in all 11 postseason games in Saints history.

Reflecting on his journey, Jordan mentioned that making a Pro Bowl was his initial goal when he was drafted. Everything that has come after that has been an additional bonus for him. He also expressed his desire to play for a championship in his NFL home, particularly as the new contract coincides with the next Super Bowl to be hosted in New Orleans after the 2024 season.

Jordan emphasized the strong bonds he has formed with the New Orleans community, noting the support of the Saints organization and owner Gayle Benson in various charitable endeavors. He expressed gratitude for the reciprocated love and stated that it feels good to have the organization’s backing.

With his extension signed, Jordan now looks forward to continuing his career with the Saints and contributing to the team’s success. The Saints, in turn, have secured the services of one of their all-time defensive greats, ensuring his presence on the team for at least two more seasons.

In conclusion, Cameron Jordan’s contract extension and pledge of loyalty to the New Orleans Saints highlight his deep connection to the team and city. As the NFL’s career sacks leader for the Saints, Jordan’s commitment and contributions on the field have made him an iconic figure in the franchise’s history. With this extension, he has the opportunity to further solidify his legacy while pursuing the ultimate goal of winning a championship in front of the hometown crowd.
