Haryana’s Nuh district has witnessed the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs) against three social media influencers due to their inflammatory posts that sparked violence. The police have taken action against these individuals, identified as Shahid, Aadil Khan Mannaka, and the social media account called Shayar Guru Ghantal. Out of the six FIRs lodged by the Nuh police, three were filed against these influencers.
The Nuh Police have been closely monitoring various social media videos containing misinformation and communal content. Multiple influencers are currently under police surveillance. In response to the recent communal clashes in Nuh district, where six people lost their lives during an attempt to halt a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession, the Haryana government has formed a four-member committee. This committee will collaborate with other investigative agencies to scan hate posts, specifically focusing on identifying and addressing provocative videos, hate speeches, derogatory comments, and offensive photos.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Suresh Kumar, the complainant in the case against Shahid, emphasized in the FIR that he regularly monitors social media posts. During his surveillance, he came across a profile belonging to Shahid, who concealed his identity. Kumar claimed that the posts made by Shahid were provocative and had the potential to generate hostility between communities.
According to the FIRs, Shahid published five inflammatory posts, Aadil shared one indecent song, and Shayar Guru Ghantal’s account contained two controversial posts. The FIRs were filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including provocation with the intent to cause a riot, promoting enmity between different groups based on religion or other factors, deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, insulting someone with the motive to disrupt public peace, abetment, and obscene acts.
Currently, the police are scrutinizing approximately 2,000 videos from July 31, suspecting that some of them may have contributed to the violence in Nuh. It is speculated that these videos circulated misinformation and potentially incited the clashes.
