South University, an institution of higher education with 11 campuses and online programs, has announced its separation from the Education Principle Foundation (EPF). The decision, which was unanimously approved by both the South University Board of Trustees and the EPF Board, marks a significant milestone in the university’s history as it prepares to celebrate its 125th anniversary.
With this separation, South University is returning to its roots as an independent institution dedicated to providing educational opportunities for a diverse student population. Chancellor Dr. Steven Yoho expressed excitement about the university’s newfound independence, stating that it will enable them to take bold strides toward an even more prosperous future. He also acknowledged the unwavering commitment and dedication of the university’s team in shaping it into a nationally recognized institution.

Over the last four years, South University has experienced impressive growth in enrollment, even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This growth, coupled with the fulfillment of EPF’s mission in support of the university, has positioned South University to thrive as an independent institution.
South University offers a range of degree programs in fields such as Nursing, Business, IT, and Healthcare. Its offerings also include a Doctorate in Pharmacy and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Recently, the university expanded its Master of Science in Physician Assistant (PA) program to its Austin, TX campus, and it now boasts the program across five locations in four states. Accredited to enroll 246 students annually, the PA program has seen tremendous demand, with over 600 students enrolled as of Q1 2023.

South University’s journey to independence began in early 2019 when it transitioned from Dream Center Education Holdings to EPF, a move that allowed the university to prioritize growth and student success. Since then, the university has achieved significant milestones, currently serving over 10,000 students across its campuses and online programs.
