The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has made a significant announcement about the Handball Association of India (HAL). The IOA has successfully brought together both factions that have been at an impasse for several months, to work towards bettering the sport and its athletes. This amicable resolution was facilitated by the IOA leadership, President Dr P.T Usha and its Joint Secretary & Acting CEO Kalyan Chaubey. With India gearing up for the Hangzhou Asian Games, this breakthrough is a critical development for the future of handball in the country.
The IOA is the governing body for the Olympic movement in India. It is involved in promoting the Olympic values and ensuring the participation of the Indian team in the Olympic Games, as well as other multi-sport events.
Dr PT Usha is a retired Indian track and field athlete, known for her outstanding performance in the 1984 Summer Olympics. She is a recipient of the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award, two of India’s highest civilian and sporting honors, respectively. She was elected as the President of the Kerala Sports Council in 2021.
