Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Manipur for his first visit to the state since the outbreak of violence on May 3, which has claimed over 70 lives. The minister is expected to meet with stakeholders from both the hills and the valley to resolve the ongoing crisis. Despite reports of encounters between security forces and armed Kuki groups in various locations, the minister’s visit proceeded as planned. Shah is on a four-day visit to the state from May 29 to June 1.

The Indian Army apprehended 22 miscreants with weapons and warlike stores in Manipur. They recovered five 12 bore double-barrel rifles, three single-barrel rifles, one country-made weapon with double bore, and one muzzle-loaded weapon. Swift Army action prevented several incidents of arson and the loss of precious lives. The 22 miscreants were handed over to Manipur Police along with the seized weapons. The Army had mobilized its columns to establish multiple Mobile Vehicle Check Posts and undertake search operations after receiving specific information about the presence of armed miscreants venturing out to burn houses in Sanasabi, Gwaltabi, and Shabunkhol Khunao in YKPI bowl in the hilly region of Imphal East District of Manipur on Sunday.

Amit Shah is the current Union Home Minister of India, serving since May 2019. He is a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shah previously served as the President of BJP from 2014 to 2020. Under his leadership, the party saw significant success in state elections and won a massive mandate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The Indian Army is the land-based branch and the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces. It is responsible for land-based military operations, including fighting enemies on land, securing borders, controlling internal security in disputed territories, and aiding civil authorities in times of natural disasters and other disturbances. The Indian Army relies on the latest technology and weaponry, and its personnel undergo rigorous training to be prepared for any need.
