Ko Jin-young, the top-ranked female golfer in the world, has been dethroned by Nelly Korda from the United States, according to the latest women’s golf rankings. This marks the first time since May that Ko has not held the No. 1 spot.
Ko had a strong start to the year, climbing from No. 5 to the top position after winning two LPGA tournaments. She also broke the record for the most total weeks spent at No. 1, with a remarkable 163-week tenure. However, her recent performances have not been as successful, and she has failed to secure a top-10 finish in the last five tournaments.
At the recent Amundi Evian Championship, Ko tied for 20th place, while Korda secured a ninth-place finish. These results ultimately allowed Korda to overtake Ko and claim the No. 1 ranking with an average of 7.75 ranking points, while Ko slipped to No. 2 with 7.54 points.
The rankings are based on players’ performance over a two-year period, with the current year carrying more weight and the most recent 13 weeks receiving additional emphasis. This ensures that the rankings reflect the players’ recent form and achievements.
In addition to Ko’s slip, another South Korean golfer, Kim Hyo-joo, fell from No. 8 to No. 11 after also tying for 20th place at the Evian Championship. This leaves Ko as the only representative from South Korea in the top 10.
While Ko’s reign at the top has come to an end for now, the golf world eagerly anticipates her future performances and whether she will reclaim the No. 1 spot. Korda, on the other hand, will strive to maintain her position and build on her recent success.
