Myles Farmer, a two-year starter for the Nebraska Huskers, has been suspended from the team’s roster and his return is uncertain, according to Husker coach Matt Rhule. The news came on the opening day of Nebraska football’s training camp at the Hawks Championship Center in Lincoln, which was attended by hundreds of fans for Nebraska Football Fan Day.
Rhule expressed his love for Farmer and acknowledged the challenges of transitioning to a new coach with different standards. He stated that the decision regarding Farmer’s potential return is day-by-day, emphasizing that the ball is in Farmer’s court and that the coaching staff respects his choices as a man.
Farmer, who stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds, has had an impactful career with the Huskers. In 26 games, he has accumulated 112 tackles and four interceptions. He served as a part-time starter in 2021 and became a full-time starter in 2022, where he recorded 73 tackles and an interception.
However, Farmer’s journey has not been without challenges. He was suspended for the Michigan game in 2022 due to a suspicion of DUI, for which he pleaded no contest in February 2023. As a result, he was sentenced to seven days of house arrest.
In addition to Farmer’s suspension, there have been other changes to the Huskers’ roster. Wide receiver Josh Fleeks has been excluded from the 120-man roster due to being overweight, as he works to trim down. Offensive tackle Jacob Hood is currently in rehab mode for chronic ankle issues, preventing his participation in camp. Defensive lineman Brodie Tagaloa was involved in a car accident weeks ago, resulting in facial and knee injuries. It is expected that he will miss the entire season due to the injuries sustained in the accident.
Furthermore, two recruits who were previously part of the team are no longer listed on the roster. Linebacker Seth Malcom, a 2021 recruit, found himself in a logjam at the position, leading to his exclusion. Tight end Chase Androff, a three-star recruit, was also caught in a logjam and did not live up to the speculation that he might transition to an offensive lineman.
The Huskers’ training camp was a significant event for fans, who attended in large numbers to show their support for the team. The news of Farmer’s suspension and other roster changes has left some uncertainty surrounding the team, but Coach Rhule remains hopeful and eager to guide the Huskers towards a successful season.
As the Huskers prepare for the upcoming season, fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on Farmer’s potential return to the team and the overall progress of the roster.
