The Texas Tech football team is gearing up for the 2023 season, and there are several offensive players to keep an eye on. In this edition of 5 in 5, we’ll take a closer look at the top five returning offensive players for the Red Raiders.
Starting off the list is a standout wide receiver, Desoto product Bradley. As a freshman, Bradley had an impressive campaign, leading the team in receiving yards with 744. He also scored six touchdowns and averaged 14.6 yards per catch. Bradley’s performance earned him a spot on the preseason All-Big 12 team.
Next up is running back Brooks, who has been the leading rusher for the Red Raiders in the past two seasons. Despite sharing the workload with SaRodorick Thompson, Brooks managed to rack up 691 yards and seven touchdowns on 147 carries in 2022. With Thompson gone, Brooks will shoulder an even more significant role this upcoming season.
Wide receiver Price has been a consistent presence on the field throughout his career. Over the span of three years, Price has accumulated 1,336 yards on 117 receptions, though he has only scored five touchdowns. Last year, Price tied with Bradley for the team lead in receptions with 51.
Quarterback Shough is set to take the helm as QB1 from the start of the season. Although health has been a concern for Shough, he has an impressive record as a starter, winning eight out of the nine games he has started at Texas Tech. Last season, he completed 106-of-177 passes for 1,304 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 269 yards and four scores.
Rounding out the top five is versatile player White. He initially started as a receiver, then transitioned to running back before returning to the outside in 2022. His efforts paid off with a 45-catch season, totaling 572 yards and three touchdowns.
The 2023 season holds promise for these offensive players as they look to make their mark on the field. With a mix of experience and talent, they will be vital in driving the Red Raiders’ offense to success.
