RPF Jawan Shoots 4 Passengers Dead in Mumbai-Jaipur Express, India

Four passengers, including a Railway Protection Force (RPF) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were tragically shot dead by an RPF Jawan on the Mumbai-Jaipur Superfast Express. The jawan responsible for the incident has since been apprehended.

The shocking incident occurred when RPF constable Chetan Kumar opened fire on ASI Tikaram Meena and three other passengers while the train was en route to Mumbai. Chetan Kumar used his official weapon to carry out the shooting. Currently, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigations are underway.

According to reports, Divisional Railway Manager Neeraj Kumar stated that at 6:00 AM, they received information about the incident. A railway officer promptly reached the scene to assist, and the families of the deceased were notified.

Tragically, four individuals lost their lives in the incident. To support the family of ASI Tika Ram, Western Railways will provide an ex gratia payment of Rs 25 lakh. This includes Rs 15 lakh from the Railway Surksha Kalyan Nidhi, Rs 20,000 for funeral expenses, approximately Rs 15 lakh from DCRG, and approximately Rs 65,000 from GIS.

Chief PRO Western Railway, Sumit Thakur, expressed regret over the incident and noted that investigations are ongoing. The constable responsible for the shooting has been arrested by the RPF/Bhayandar, and further inquiries will be conducted.

The incident took place in the B5 coach of the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express (Train number 12956) after it crossed Palghar Station. The RPF constable, identified as CT Chetan, shot four passengers, including an RPF ASI. As per Western Railways, the accused constable has been detained along with his weapon.

The RPF released a statement reporting the incident on train no. 12956 at 5:23 AM, confirming that CT Chetan fired on the escort in charge ASI Tika Ram. The train has since arrived at BVI, and it has been reported that three civilians, in addition to ASI Tika Ram, have suffered casualties. The Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (SDSC) BCT is en route to the site.
