Builder Arrested After Construction Worker Falls to Death in Delhi
A builder has been arrested in Delhi following the tragic death of a construction worker who fell from the fifth floor of an under-construction building. The deceased, identified as Sheikh Shah Alam, was a 41-year-old laborer from Bihar’s Katihar area. The incident occurred in Malviya Nagar, and a PCR call was received by the Delhi Police on Sunday.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the building was being constructed by a builder named Harish, who had obtained approval from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). However, it was discovered that safety gear was neither found on the body of the deceased nor at the construction site.
The police swiftly apprehended Harish, the accused builder, and registered a case against him under sections 288/304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The body of Sheikh Shah Alam has been moved to the mortuary.
Speaking about the incident, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti described it as a tragic event. He highlighted that the laborer, who had migrated from Bihar to Delhi in search of a livelihood for his family, ultimately lost his life. Bharti emphasized that the builder failed to fulfill his responsibility of providing safety gear to the laborer, thus exposing serious loopholes in the system.
According to Bharti, Sheikh Shah Alam was plastering a wall on the fifth floor of the building when the unfortunate incident occurred. He expressed concern over the lack of safety measures at the construction site and criticized the alleged negligence on the builder’s part. He also pointed out that both the police and MCD claimed that the construction plan had been sanctioned.
