Delhi Woman Murdered in Broad Daylight; DCW Chief Seeks Police Accountability
A shocking incident occurred in broad daylight in Delhi as a 22-year-old woman was brutally murdered in Malviya Nagar. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety and security of women in the capital city. In light of this tragic event, Swati Maliwal, the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), has sought police accountability and demanded an action taken report from the Delhi Police.
The woman was reportedly attacked with an iron rod near Aurobindo College in Malviya Nagar, resulting in her death at the scene. The DCW has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident based on media reports and has promptly issued a notice to the Delhi Police. The notice requests a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) as well as details regarding any arrests made in connection with the case.
Expressing her concern, Swati Maliwal remarked on the alarming rise in crimes against women in Delhi. She emphasized the urgent need for accountability and questioned why the Central Government has been unable to address this issue effectively. Maliwal stated, It’s like every day, the names of the girls in the newspaper change, but the crimes against them continue unabated. She has called for a high-level meeting involving the Central Government, Delhi Government, and Delhi Police to address the safety and security of women and girls.
In a separate incident that occurred earlier on the same day, a 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of a woman in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. The accused, identified as Irfan, is said to be a cousin of the deceased. According to the police, the motive behind the murder was the rejection of the accused’s marriage proposal. The incident appears to stem from a love affair turned sour, compounded by the accused being unemployed.
Detailing the sequence of events, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South Delhi, Chandan Chowdhary, explained that the accused invited the victim to discuss their issues at Vijay Mandal Park in Malviya Nagar. However, the situation took a tragic turn when the accused allegedly attacked the woman with an iron rod, leading to her demise.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the arrest of the accused has provided some sense of relief to the victim’s family. The police are diligently questioning the suspect to gather additional information and evidence related to the case.
The recent incidents of violence against women have once again highlighted the pressing need for enhanced safety measures and stricter enforcement of the law. It is crucial for the authorities to address prevailing concerns and work towards making Delhi a safer place for women and girls. The demand for police accountability, raised by the DCW Chief, reflects the desire for swift and effective action to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
