Congress Revokes Suspension of Jharkhand MLAs Caught with Cash in West Bengal, Accuses BJP of Conspiracy
The Congress party has decided to revoke the suspension of its three Jharkhand MLAs who were caught with a significant amount of cash in West Bengal’s Howrah district last year. The MLAs, Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal, had been under suspension since July last year. The decision to lift their suspension comes following the direction of the party’s Jharkhand in-charge, Avinash Pandey.
Jharkhand Congress President Rajesh Thakur, while addressing reporters at the Assembly premises, stated that on the instruction of Avinash Pandey, the suspension of the three MLAs has been immediately revoked, and the party has issued a letter to that effect. It should be noted that the suspension order against the MLAs was issued on July 31, 2022, right after their arrest in a cash haul case.
Last year, the MLAs’ vehicle was intercepted by the police on National Highway 16 at Panchla in West Bengal’s Howrah district. During the search, authorities found nearly Rs 49 lakh in cash inside the car. The Congress party had accused the BJP of trying to topple its coalition government in the state at the time. Congress MLA Kumar Jaimangal Singh, also known as Anup Singh, had filed a complaint with Ranchi’s Argora police station, alleging that the three legislators had tried to bribe him with Rs 10 crore and a ministerial position to destabilize the JMM-led government in Jharkhand.
The Congress party had also urged the Speaker to disqualify the three MLAs. Regarding this matter, Rajesh Thakur stated that the party will discuss the issue and make a decision accordingly.
In response to the revocation of their suspension, MLA Irfan Ansari expressed that their issue was due to a misunderstanding, which has now been resolved, and he is back in the Congress party.
It is worth mentioning that assembly elections in Jharkhand are scheduled for next year.
