Revamped Mid Argyll Track Hosts Scottish Motocross Championship, Featuring Local and British Riders
The Mid Argyll track at Achnashelloch Farm is set to be the center of excitement this weekend as it hosts the Scottish Motocross Championship. Dirt bike riders from all over the country will gather on July 29th and 30th to compete in this thrilling event, with local riders of all ages showcasing their skills in Kilmartin Glen near Lochgilphead.
One of the riders looking forward to testing himself on the newly revamped track is 65-year-old Alastair Aiken from Oban. He will be taking part in the adult race on Sunday, following the juniors who will be competing on Saturday. Joining him in the action will be Aaron Maclarty from Seil, as well as British racers like John Adams, who currently leads the championship with 60 points.
The Mid Argyll track has undergone a complete transformation in preparation for the event, and the organizers have put in significant efforts to ensure it’s ready for the races this weekend. Commenting on the preparations, motocross commentator Sean Doherty said, We are working hard to get the track ready for the weekend while spreading the word about this exciting event. We’re facing challenging weather conditions, but our goal is to give this championship the publicity it deserves in the local area, especially considering the future of the sport.
Motocross is a sport that caters to a wide range of ages, with participants as young as six years old and adults up to 65 years old. This diversity adds to the excitement of the championship and highlights the inclusivity of the sport. Mr. Doherty’s son, Jordie, has also found success in motocross, and Sean believes that such sports are valuable for the development of young individuals. He stated, Motocross has benefited my son during his school days by fostering a sense of individuality. It is a sport that helps young kids discover their independence. Additionally, it requires athletes to be highly athletic, making it an excellent form of exercise.
Registration for the Argyll leg of the championship will be held on Saturday between 7 am and 8:50 am, with an event briefing scheduled for 8:30 am. The youth races will take place in three blocks between 10:45 am and 3:20 pm. The day will conclude with the best performers being awarded on the podium at 4:50 pm.
